Many specific names and expressions, both in Spanish and in Kreyol, were found by Víktor Bautista i Roca during a research about hoyito, which he conducted in Catalonia (among Dominican expatriates) and the Dominican Republic.

In Kreyol the game has just one name, kay (sometimes spelled as caille), but in Spanish it has many.
